Upcoming Cheer
By: Lina Rutkowski
This is the first time since 2018 that Regis has had a cheer team and it has been great. I have had so much fun and gotten to know so many people. I even made some new friends. It has been an awesome experience and I enjoy it so much. Last school year there was an exploratory class to get people interested, but finally this year we had a full year of cheer. We cheered for football, basketball, a little bit of volleyball, and our very first home wrestling meet. Since then we have grown and learned so much as a team, and it has been an amazing experience. We held a camp for kids during both seasons and are working on recruitment for the upcoming seasons.
We are very excited and can’t wait to have more girls join this year. At St. Mary’s, we held a meeting for all eighth-grade girls interested in cheer and are having a camp for all incoming freshmen who are interested. All girls who want to cheer for 2023 through 2024 seasons will have to attend tryouts week, except for the girls who are in spring sports. Videos will be posted for those girls so they can practice at home and get a feel for what they will be learning in the upcoming seasons. They will also be able to participate in the performance at the end of the try-out week. During tryouts, we will be learning a cheer, a chant, a band dance, and some basic stunting and training. It will be an exciting week.
Everyone will get to cheer and no one will be cut as long as requirements are met. Over the summer starting in August, we will return to practice for the football season. We will get to learn and practice every day, and then once games begin we will cheer at all home and away games. We will do our best to cheer on our team and pump up the crowds so that we may bring pride to the school and greater glory to Christ the King.
