Last week, on Friday, May 3, we held the annual Regis Community Twilight Track Meet; It involved 21 teams including Chamawa, East Linn Christian, Riverside, Stayton, Clatskanie, Horizon Christian, Salem Academy, Valley Catholic, Crosshill Christian, Kennedy, Santiam, Westside Christian, De La Salle N Catholic, Monroe, Santiam Christian, Delphiain, Oregon Episcopal, St Paul, Dufur, Regis, and St. Stephen’s Academy.
Rain was pouring down for the majority of the meet. There were many sponsors and helpers from the Regis community. The Regis men got 11th place, and the women got 6th place. There were some fantastic races from Daisy Hernandez, who won the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles. Julius Porkony also had a tremendous race in the 800m, getting 3rd place. Both of them secured the fastest time in our district. When asked about the meet, Grant Dobly, a thrower, said, “It was a great meet besides the rain, and I got some experience with what it is like to throw against the excellent guys.” Overall, it was a great meet for all the competitors. Now it is on to next week, where Regis has districts at Blanchet to see who will get to the state.
