Then and Now

Regis High School was built in 1963. Now, it is possible to find great differences over the years. So, looking back on all the development that Regis has made, it feels like an entirely different school. Regis has shown great progression and is bringing in more opportunities for students while also removing other activities due to a lack of interest or necessity. Which helps differentiate certain developmental stages of Regis. Especially with the increasing number of students arriving each year, it is possible to see some big changes over the past 35 years.

One of the first things that Regis has developed is their buildings. Back in 1990, the academic building was just a straight line. Although it doesn’t make much of a difference, there were other modifications in the property, such as the student center and gym. For starters, there wasn’t an actual kitchen, it was more of a small concession stand. This also meant that there wasn’t a Regis Cafe at the time. The stage didn’t exist either, which implies that plays and musicals weren’t introduced at the time either. The student center was more of an entrance to the school rather than a cafeteria. Moving on to the Dome, the chapel used to be a library and a chapel. However, they had removed the library due to the necessity of having a church area.

Despite these major differences, Regis’s academics are strong. During this time, there was a lack of computers and electronics. So students had a more focused school. It is apparent from these quotes from 1990 that Regis is great for college preparation and values education over extracurriculars. There were plenty of classes as Regis had art, German, Spanish, Study Skills, Journalism (Rampage), Computer, Business, Accounting, Typing, and Sociology/Psychology. There weren’t any required electives either. Regis also had a Choir group at the time. Some students even represent Regis at a concert! There were also clubs at the time, showcasing the National Honors Society, Liturgy club, chess club, and so on, and so on. Of course, these classes don’t show up in modern-day Regis, however, there are more interesting electives. Electives such as Children’s Theater, Forensics, Family and Consumer Science (FACS), and so on. Even after all of these years, Regis students still study hard.

Now, Regis is not only prominent in their education, but in their sports too. Based on a poll that showed in the 1990 yearbook, there were 33 Football players, 12 Cheerleaders, 36 Volleyball players, 47 Cross Country runners, 12 Dancers, 69 Basketball players, 15 Softball players, 25 Baseball players, and 55 Track players. Based on statistics, Regis was powerful in athletics. Many of their teams are making it to state champions and such. This year, for Regis, the basketball team got fifth place in Pendleton. We know that there will be more in store for the Rams!

Regis has developed throughout the years. Whether it is academics or athletics, there is bound to be some progress. Some classes had been let go, while others recently surged into the school. And as time goes on, the school brings in extensions of new buildings and so on. However, even throughout all these years, Regis wouldn’t have made such great progress without their students. So the real message is the hard work and dedication that has been paved for future Rams.
