The first week of the 2023 Cross Country Season
By Jake Bohnke
Cross Country started for freshmen at Regis on Monday, September 1st. We had our first meeting and after our run, we got Dilly Bars. Tuesday was when practice kicked into high gear as we were joined by the rest of the runners and Coach Dave Paine who is currently training for a marathon and assisting at Regis. We did a run at the Back 40 behind Stayton Middle School that day as well. Wednesday was very similar to Tuesday as we ran the same course but slightly easier as we had a meet Thursday.
Our first meet was at Monroe High School and it was a 3K (1.89 miles). Regis took second overall with Stuart McLaughlin taking fourth place coming in at a time of 10:43. After the race he said “The course was bad and it had too many sharp turns”. The day after the meet Regis and St. Marys runners attended the Sublimity road run. With Regis Students helping out the Stayton Road Runners, along with some St. Mary’s kids running the 3k with Kaison Acker getting a new personal record of 11:55. Aidan and Levi Jaeger also finished in the top ten not far behind Kaison. Cross Country has already shown to be a great thing you can do for fall and Mr. Bauer is one of the best coaches whether you are serious or not about running.
