Thanksgiving with Puppies

By Carli Stelljes

Every Thanksgiving, my family goes to my grandparent’s house in Idaho. We spend the holiday with all of the relatives on my mom’s side who live over there. There is always a lot of food, and someone always takes leftovers home. While we eat, people catch up and play games. Last year was different; my dog Coco had puppies that were too little and hard to travel with when Thanksgiving came. My family decided to stay at our house for the holiday. It was unusual because I had never had Thanksgiving anywhere besides at my grandparents’ house. While it was different, it was still fun. My Dad got to try cooking and preparing the turkey, and my sisters and I made rolls. One of the best parts was when Gypsy, a puppy from Coco’s first litter, was brought over. We got to play with Coco, her puppies, and Gypsy. When she went home, the puppy we called Rolo went with her. We ended the night by giving the puppies some turkey, which they enjoyed and were excited about. While this was fun, everyone decided it was better when we went to Idaho and that we were going there for Thanksgiving next year.
