Sacred Art Based on Learning

By Ivanna Palacios

Regis is home to various pieces of art with spiritual meaning behind them. Some of those pieces are displayed over at the senior hall. One of those pieces of art is an image of an open book with an enlightened cross standing above it. That piece has a specific meaning, which is learning. You can first realize that this piece’s theme is “Learning” because the word “Learn” is part of the work. It also has a deeper meaning to it, as all art does, but this piece has multiple meanings. It symbolizes learning, but it symbolizes multiple kinds of learning. One of those ways is the learning that we receive in the classes that we get in our academic life. Another one of those ways is the learning that we receive in learning how to grow our spiritual life and grow closer to God. One more of those ways is learning to grow close as a community and be involved in it. These are all elements that represent the school, what it stands for, and what it inculcates in its students. This painting also plays a part in our school motto, which is “Love, Learn, Lead, and Serve.” Various people have commented on this piece of art, Hayley Jincks being one of them with the words “It’s very inspiring and influential.”
