Regis Vs. Western Christian
By: Arlyn Birkholz
On December 12th, the Regis Men’s JV basketball team traveled to Salem and played at Western Christian. The Rams came out strong in the first quarter hitting a few threes giving them an early lead. In the second quarter, the Rams got a little sloppy with multiple turnovers allowing the Pioneers to take a 27-17 lead at halftime. At half-time, the Rams walked into the locker room knowing they could have played better. The coaches gave a nice pep talk and the players walked out of the locker room ready to put up a good fight.
The men started off the third quarter strong and kept it up for the rest of the game! They got back on defense and passed to their posts more often. Eli Silbernagel and Rook Smith took advantage of some open looks and hit several threes closing the gap to two points. It was a very close battle and it stayed like that until the game was over. With nine seconds left, a Pioneer player stole the ball and dribbled down the court to make a layup, which put Western Christian up by one point, letting them win the game 44-43. Coming out of the game the Rams JV team learned a lot and now know the areas they need to work in. Key players for the Rams were Eli Silbernagel with 17 points, Rook Smith who netted 15 points, and Jake Laube, who had numerous assists at point guard.
