Regis Cheer Squad

By: Mary Hernandez

Regis cheer squad started back up in August of 2022 with the help and coaching skills of Mrs. Mendez, who is also our ELA teacher here at Regis. To start getting ready for football season, they began to learn some cheers, dances, and stunts. The cheerleaders involved in winter cheer were Karen, Olivia, Mya, Isabelle, Kaila, Reagan, Lina, and Mary. The cheer squad was such a great addition to our school spirit! At the beginning of our school year, they held a pep rally with the student council to get the school more involved with school spirit and sportsmanship! During the season, the cheerleaders put on many great performances. Some great ones were “Go Wild”, “Boing Boing”, and “Doctor Who”, and of course can’t forget the crowd’s favorite cheer: “Trucking”! The cheerleaders were always there, rain or shine, even at away games with their big pretty bows. They got everyone on their feet, cheering loud and proud! Later, the cheerleaders added a new addition to the routine. During the game, they would be choosing a “super fan”: someone in the crowd who is the most involved in the cheers, the loudest, and dressing in theme. During halftime, the person would be chosen and announced and would receive a crown, cape, and a photo with the awesome cheerleaders! The cheerleaders really learned a lot in their first year and it shows, especially with the stunting.

Next was basketball cheer, keeping the spirit strong and gaining four new cheerleaders: Addi, Maria, Zarell, and Jordan. We are so lucky to have them! During the basketball season, they cheered at home games, adding new ideas and crowd involvement into the mix of the game so it was never boring! They would perform a dance during the boys’ halftime and play a fun competitive game for everyone to get in the spirit! They even throw crowd Noisemakers. The Regis student section hasn’t been louder before, and there really is never a dull moment. The cheerleaders went on an expedition to a non-competition competition and still performed on game day! The routine included the “YMCA”, “Fight Song”, “Down The Floor”, and a chat. Finally, bringing back the cheer clinics was very successful. We love the cheerleaders and are so glad to have them back. Thank you to Coach Mendez and the cheerleaders for all your hard work, and keep it up!! Please enjoy These photos of the Squad.
