Rams Lose Close Game To Culver

By Harper Stoops

On April 9th, 2025, the Regis Rams baseball team took the two-and-a-half-hour trip to Culver, Oregon to face the Bulldogs in the first game of a three-game series. The Rams, sporting a record of 4-4 at the time, were looking to shock the 7-1 Bulldogs on the road to set a tone for the rest of the series. Culver was looking to continue their early season success thus far. Owen Eaton took the rock for Regis and Houston Wittenberg started for Bulldogs.

The game started slow with Eaton and Wittenberg having quick innings to keep the score locked at zero. The Rams struck first with Korben Schumacher coming in to score in the top of the third giving Regis a one-run lead. The Bulldogs were quick to respond in the bottom half of the inning putting up three to make the score three to one. It wasn’t until the fifth when Ethan Emch was driven home on an error by the Culver shortstop that Regis started to crawl back. The score remained three to two until the top of the final inning, when the Rams scored on a Korben Schumacher single to even the game at three. In the bottom of the seventh inning, a fielder’s choice on Regis shortstop Hayden Lulay allowed the winning run to cross the plate for the Bulldogs giving them the four-to-three win.

Notable performances from Regis included Owen Eaton on the bump who went six innings allowing only three runs against the fourth-ranked Bulldogs. Korben Schumacher was also a contributor to the Ram’s effort, batting two runs in as well as coming in to score himself in the third inning to start the game. Regis is looking to bounce back for Friday’s doubleheader as a strong showing in the final games of the series can net them a two-one series win.
