Ornithology
By: Hailey Jincks
I enjoy the Ornithology class, better known as bird watching. Getting out of the building is worth being in the class. It is fun to learn about the different types of birds and their differences. We learned how to identify birds by their feathers, sizes, colors, feet, and bill sizes. For example, we learned the difference between a Crow and a Raven. A Raven differs from a Crow because its size is more prominent, and its bill is bigger. Ravens also have different flight patterns and tail shapes.
We have many moments to laugh, whether with friends or with each other. There is this one goose from the Marian Estates pond. The goose walks up to us and hisses at us but rarely tries to bite us. Once, I got the goose to eat out of the cup of bird feed I was holding. Most of the ducks there stay there year-round. Our reasoning for believing this is that the ducks are fat and are probably domesticated. We get to see all types of birds, such as woodpeckers, multiple kinds of chickadees, robins, and a Mexican conyer named Lemon.
