Former Ram Marissa Schumacher
By: Hadley Foster
From 1996 to 1999, my mom Marissa Schumacher went to school here at Regis. My mom played softball in high school and played in the outfield most of the time. Her team never won state, but they made it to state almost every year she was here. One year, in 1998, they played in the championship game but lost by two to Monroe.
In 1995, the Rams made it to state. They played against Corbett and beat them 11-3, and then they took on Sheridan next. Sheridan won by one point, with the final score being 3-2. Sheridan went on to play in the championship game, falling to Crow 2-0.
In 1997, the Rams made it to state again. Regis had a bye in the first round but then played Harrisburg, beating them 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Harrisburg played Wahtonka in the semi-finals and lost 2-0. Wahtonka went on to win state, beating Santiam Christian 6-3. My mom was only a sophomore in 1997 and had already made it to state twice.
1998 was Lady Ram’s best year for softball when my mom was here. The Lady Rams went 17-8 on the season and made it to state. During the first round of playoffs, the Rams played Nyssa and won 2-1. For the quarterfinals, they played Santiam Christian, and Regis won 7-3. When they finally made it to the state championship game, the Rams played Monroe and lost 3-1. Monroe was 25-2 in 1998.
In 1999, my mom was a senior. They made it to state, but they lost in the first round to Corbett. Corbett then lost to Monroe 9-0 in the quarterfinals. This concludes my mom’s high school softball experience. Overall, they made it to state three out of four times and went to the championship game once. I hope I can beat my mom and win a state championship.
