CRS Rice Bowl
By: Trayton Hume
Every time Lent comes around, Catholic families around the world come together and put their faith into action through positive things like prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl educates families about how our sisters and brothers around the globe go through hardships like hunger. By sharing our Lenten alms, we have the opportunity to make the world a better place for everyone. There are CRS stations all around the world giving to those in need. CRS has managed to reach 190 million people with food and support.
If you donate, 75% of your donations go to CRS stations worldwide, while the other 25% goes to help with poverty and starvation in your community. On the CRS Rice Bowl website, you can read stories from CRS’ help from around the globe. These are great examples of how donations can help people all around the world. These stories are from Honduras, the Philippines, Kenya, and many other places. You can also visit their website for meatless recipes and other food-making tips that help during Lent. Some donation options are; $60 for a pond with fish in it, $80 dollars will provide a baby goat for milk and money, and $150 for a garden by the house for nutrition and food.
