Cheer Captain Interview
By: Ainslie Hume
On Wednesday, September 18th, I interviewed the cheer captain, Kaila Hayes which was recorded and posted on Instagram. Kaila has been cheerleading all four years of high school and enjoys the community that the cheer team creates. Her favorite cheer is truckin’ because it gets the crowd involved, her favorite dance is boo thing, and she loves all the stunting that they do. Kaila answered quite a few questions about cheer, such as what cheer is like, how big of a commitment it is, and more. Kaila explained that cheerleading is as big of a commitment as any other sport, there is practice 4 days a week from 3:30 to 5:30. The cheerleaders do a little bit of everything during practices, some days they’ll learn a dance to perform, others they’ll practice stunting. During the interview I asked Kaila how the cheerleading team was different from when she first started freshman year, she said “freshman year was an elective, and it was just a couple girls, we got it to be a sport my sophomore year”. Even after it became a sport there were only 6 girls and not a lot of stunting, this year there are 18 cheerleaders and more stunting.
