Catholic School Week Christ the King Day
By: Ivanna Palacios
Regis St. Mary recently celebrated Catholic Schools Week from January 28 through February 2. On Wednesday, January 31st, Regis followed a Christ the King schedule which allowed them to spend part of the day together as a community with St. Mary. Both schools were able to go to Mass at Immaculate Conception Church and afterward, Regis students were treated by spending the afternoon at the AMC Fire Lanes Bowling over in Salem.
The day began at 9:00 AM due to the Christ the King Schedule. Students hung out around the halls before the bell rang, but at 9:00, everyone was expected to be inside their homeroom classrooms. Once teachers took attendance, everyone parted for St. Mary’s Church. Seniors and Juniors were allowed to drive themselves, and transportation through buses was provided for Sophomores and Freshmen, along with any Seniors and Juniors who didn’t have a mode of transportation. Once mass ended, students were returned back to the Regis campus.
Once students arrived back on campus, they were given free time to either hang out in the student center or play games that were laid out in the gym. Lunchtime followed these events, lunch was provided by the school for students and staff unless students wished to bring their own lunch from home; cheeseburgers, cookies, icicles, and chips were served.
But before students were given the green light to get their food, Student of the Month Awards were given out. Once everyone had finished their lunch, students were taken to the AMC Fire Lanes Bowling in Salem; Seniors and Juniors were allowed to drive themselves there and back, and transport was provided to Sophomores and Freshmen through a school bus and also for Seniors and Juniors who didn’t have a mode of transport. Students spent the rest of the day at the bowling alley and returned to school at 3:00 for dismissal. “It was really nice to spend the rest of the day bowling with my friends” – Melissa Blish.
