An Interview With Track Coach Mr. Bauer

By William Miotke

On April 22, 2024, the track coach, Mr. Bauer, was interviewed by Rampage reporter William Miotke. Mr. Bauer had lots of great things to say about the track team and his experience coaching. Mr. Bauer has been coaching track and field for 51 years and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. “It is really an enjoyable experience,” Mr. Bauer said, “There’s no coach trying to tell you that you’re not good enough”. Track is a fun sport for anyone. When asked about the success of this year’s track team, Mr. Bauer said, “I’m so excited, we have so many freshmen out, it makes it really an enjoyable experience”. “But,” Mr. Bauer continued, “we also have some veterans that can lead the way”. In track, everybody is successful. Track is not simply centered on competition but on improving yourself. “You are always successful,” Mr. Bauer explains, “because track is about getting better every day, and it’s one of the few sports that you measure yourself rather than your team’s success”.
One of the more appealing aspects of track is the accessibility. As a coach, Mr. Bauer finds that “you don’t have people that are worried about whether they’re going to start or whether they’re going to make the team”. This is because “everybody gets to participate”. Track is a fun sport that is open to everyone and challenges you to improve and succeed as the season progresses.
