Advice for New Freshmen – Get Involved
By Myla Etzel
In my freshmen year, I decided to try anything and everything. I was involved in basketball, volleyball, softball, the play, musical, the cafe, and student council. What I have learned from all of the activities I did are it’s going to make you busy and it’s going to be stressful but in the end, it’s going to be worth it because you will meet so many new people and have many adventures. I encourage any incoming freshman to get out there and just try it. It doesn’t matter if you have never played, acted, made a coffee, or even been in a leadership role, just experience it and try it.
In my freshman year, we did a lot of fun things like a powder puff, macho volleyball, decorated hallways, bonfire, dress up days, the homecoming court being announced, all school bowling, retreats, all school lunches, pep rallies, playoff games, messy Olympics, and so many more things. The student council who put on all these activities really made my high school experience more than I could have ever expected. To all incoming freshmen, your first year as a high schooler will be so much more exciting if you attend and participate in all the activities in and after school. High school is a great experience and really bettered me as a person and brought me not only closer to God but closer to my community.
