Cross Country
By: Braden Rush
Cross Country is a sport where you are running races outside on natural ground either with a team or individually. At Regis High School, Cross Country is coached by Mr. Bauer. He is a really great guy and tries his best to get people into running. Mr. Bauer tries to make Cross Country as fun as he can and takes people to interesting places.
I interviewed Mr. Bauer and I asked him a few questions.
#1 How did you start coaching Cross Country? Mr. Bauer said that during his first 3 years of coaching at Regis he was a Football assistant coach and he wanted to be able to coach a sport on his own. He finally got his opportunity to be head coach with Cross Country
#2 When did you start coaching Cross Country? Mr. Bauer said that he started coaching Cross Country in 1975 and has been doing it for 47 years.
#3 How much longer do you think you will keep coaching Cross Country? Mr. Bauer told me that he will keep coaching Cross Country as long as there is a need to and he is physically able to.
#4 What’s the most enjoyable thing you do in Cross Country? Mr. Bauer said that the most enjoyable thing for him is recruiting people, trying to get students involved, and encouraging them to try something new.
Some things Mr. Bauer wanted everyone to know are:
#1 Anybody can do the activity.
#2 Unless you try it you don’t know how much fun it is.
#3 Everyone feels really good about themselves when they finish a race no matter how fast or slow they are.
#4 You get to meet more people and can make more friends.
I myself have joined Cross Country and I’m looking forward to meeting new people. From what my brothers have said, Cross Country is fun and they are glad they did it. From what I know, some reasons you may want to join it is because you will probably make friends, it’s not hard to run, and it’s healthy.
