About Mark Delano

By Jonathan Delano

My name is Jonathan Delano, and I want to share a bit about my father, Mark P. Delano, who graduated from Regis High School in 1997. His time at Regis shaped not only his educational journey but also laid the foundation for the values he holds dear today. The stories and experiences he shares from his high school days resonate with many, and I hope to convey just how impactful those years were for him.

Mark was born in Southern California, a vibrant place filled with sunshine and opportunity. However, life took a turn when he moved to the Pacific Northwest to live with his mother. This transition, while challenging for any young teenager, was the beginning of an incredible journey for him. From the moment he arrived, he encountered a new environment filled with different cultures, landscapes, and people. The adjustment was not always easy, but it made him more resilient and adaptable—qualities that would serve him later in life.

Starting high school can be a daunting experience for anyone, but he embraced it with an open mind and a determination to succeed. He began his journey at Regis as a Freshman, stepping into the halls filled with new faces and opportunities. The atmosphere at Regis was supportive and encouraging, which allowed him to thrive academically and socially, although he was not very outgoing. His time at Regis was marked by a sense of community that provided a nurturing environment for personal growth.

Throughout his years at Regis, Mark developed several friendships. He often reminisces about the fun times spent with friends during lunch breaks, the spontaneous laughter that echoed through the halls, and the invaluable lessons learned both in and out of the classroom. He was particularly excited to be in the same class as our own Mrs. Miotke, which provided a unique experience. Having a future educator in his cohort meant that debates and discussions were always intellectually stimulating. Her passion for teaching and dedication to students left a lasting impression on him, giving him a greater appreciation for education.

Mark was not only focused on academics; he also explored extracurricular activities. He participated in sports, which helped round out his high school experience. Whether it was the excitement of a basketball game or the creativity fostered in art classes, those experiences contributed significantly to his personal development. He often talks about how those activities taught him teamwork, discipline, and the importance of hard work.

As he graduated as a Senior, Mark carried with him not just the knowledge gained from textbooks but also the life lessons that came from navigating friendships, challenges, and triumphs. The bonds he formed at Regis created a sense of belonging that instilled confidence in him as he prepared for the next chapter of his life. When he received his diploma, it symbolized not just the end of high school but the beginning of new opportunities and adventures.

Mark’s time at Regis shaped him into the person he is today. The values he learned and the relationships he built continue to influence him as a father and a professional. As I share this story about my father’s journey, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride in my father and his time here.
