The Rampage staff is pleased to share a summary of the interview we conducted with Coach Mike Bauer.

As your experience as a coach, what are some key factors that you look for in athletes?

Mr. Bauer: The most important thing for me is attitude. Wanting to get better at something, but not wanting to be the best but to improve.

What are your coaching goals?

Mr. Bauer: Improve each day. Be better today than yesterday. Try to be your best each day.

How do you plan and structure team practices?

Mr. Bauer: What I try to do is to talk you into doing something that you didn’t want to do or didn’t want to try.

How do you handle injuries?

Mr. Bauer: RICE; rest, ice, compression, elevation.

What’s your approach to developing a strong team culture?

Mr. Bauer: Create a good culture where people enjoy being there and enjoy what they are doing and the rest will take care of themselve. Sometimes you have great athletes and sometimes you have good athletes, but it all depends on your morale.

Why did you decide to become a coach?

Mr. Bauer: When I was in highschool, all the sports. So, then I thought I was going to be a P.E. teacher. I was a football coach, a track coach and a basketball coach and I loved all three of them. But I became a coach because that is what the job required.

Thank you for your time, Mr. Bauer
