Regis Wrestling

By: Elijah Payne

The Regis wrestling team is a fairly new addition to the Regis sports pool. Coached by Chris Bischoff and his assistant coach Luke Bischoff the wrestling team came to life in the year 2020 when the COVID pandemic was in full swing.

The Regis wrestling team has been successful, winning multiple classic cups and also sending many wrestlers to state. I am part of the team and I can confidently say that it is the hardest sport I have ever participated in. The sheer amount of effort put forth from the team as a unit is incredible. Even though wrestling is commonly thought of as an individual sport it really revolves around the team. Not just with dual meets or team scores but to keep each other going. If I didn’t have a team behind me pushing me to improve and keep fighting and keep working I don’t think I would have stuck around. Even though I am a complete beginner I still have teammates and coaches taking time out of their day to try and teach me and help me improve.

There is also a lot of dedication involved. You have to be fine with waiting around at all-day tournaments and even though it seems daunting at first, having the experience with the team is well worth the wait. The wrestling team is a great example of what happens here at Regis.
