Chemeketa Regional Math Competition

By: William Miotke

This year ten Regis students attended the Chemeketa Regional Math Competition at the Chemeketa Community College in Hayesville, Oregon. The math competition was filled with students from many different schools. Throughout the day there were different types of events that gave students opportunities to earn points for their school’s team.

Regis High School brought Kaila Hayes, Tanner Lawson, Luke Castillo, and Alex Pelayo from the junior class, as well as Julius Pokorny and Collin Schumacher from the senior class. Four freshmen, Stephen Lejeune, Harper Stoops, Benjamin Valladares-Comier, and William Miotke, attended the competition as well.

The day was filled with different activities, such as CR2, team problem solving, lunch break, standardized testing competition, and a math relay. All of the activities were structured to give the students with the best performance the most points. Participating freshman Harper Stoops described it as “a cool opportunity to view Chemeketa and eat pizza.”

Overall it was a fun experience and students are looking forward to attending again next year.
