The Painting of Patience

By Kate Stelljes

Here at Regis, there are many fantastic pieces of artwork, many of which have been made by people who have attended Regis at some point in their lives. One of the paintings that stuck out to me was a painting of patience. Patience is a virtue that is both valued and practiced here at Regis. However, this virtue is often hard for everyone to maintain throughout the week, and I think this painting serves as a good reminder of it. This piece of art is located in the senior hall, allowing students and staff the ability to view it every day. This painting has the word patience displayed in bold in the center of the canvas. Painted along the border of the canvas is a stone rock barrier and in the middle of the canvas the rock barrier opens up to reveal a patch of earth with a small green sprout peacefully, happily, and slowly growing from it. I think this accurately portrays patience because patience is the ability to wait through difficult situations while remaining peaceful and to see the good in challenging circumstances. This is exactly what a plant does, a plant faces the conditions of the weather and predators. It slowly grows each day and eventually sprouts into something beautiful. All it took was time and patience.
