Track and Field
Regis High School has a long history of excellence in athletics. One example of their great athletics program is their great track and field teams. In 2018, the girl’s track and field team won the 2A state title. Their head coach was 2015 Regis graduate Erica Wiltsey. Instead of having a three-month season like normal, they had a six-week season on account of the lockdown caused by Covid-19.
Regis only had 11 girls for the 2A State meet, but all of them came ready to give their all. Mrs. Stuckart said, “Last year a lot of them knew what it was like not to have a season and they knew what this year meant to them”. Since there were many seniors on the team, they understood that this was their last chance for a high school title.
The one girl who won her event was Whitley Stepp in the high jump, with an impressive jump of 4 feet 11 inches. She didn’t stop there though, with a fourth-place finish in the long jump, second in the triple jump, and helping the 4×100 relay team finish third. She contributed a huge amount to their first-place finish, working as hard as she could to help them finish well.
Although the meet was close, they were able to beat Faith Bible by 13 team points, finishing with a score of 60-47. The whole team worked hard toward their goals all season. This track and field team is a great example of how you can accomplish anything with God. In Regis, we remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 19:26, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” This is something we are taught well at Regis, that all good things come from God, and he will care for us.
