Regis Back-to-Back Boys Basketball Champions
By Eli Silbernagel
Have you ever wondered about Regis’s back-to-back basketball championships? Say yes, then this is for you! In this article, you will learn all about the 2004 Regis varsity boys basketball championship. You will hopefully learn who all played on the team, what their record was in the league, and each of the starter’s team roles of one of the most interesting boys’ basketball championship teams ever at Regis.
First, we will be talking about everyone who played on the Regis varsity team. There were 12 players; Brian Free, Lawrence Silbernagel, Ricky Brentanno, Russel Lulay, Tyler Lulay, Austin Mothart, Drew Church, Ryan Butler, Aki Fujita, Blake Muscardin, Nathan Keudell, and Brian Koenke. This team had two coaches, Jeff and Jason Keonke, who are some of the best coaches to have worked at Regis.
During their season, they were the most dominant team in the state. They beat every opponent in the league. This included defeating Chemawa, Blanchet, Salem Academy, Western Mennonite, Santiam, Gervias, Scio, Colton, Heppner, Reedsport, Bonanza, and Santiam Christian. Regis even beat some teams two or three times! As you have learned, Regis was the best team in the conference by far.
Lastly, we will talk about some of the big responsibilities each player had. For example, Tyler Lulay was the team leader which is a huge responsibility. Blake Muscardian was the team’s leading scorer and was one of the best defenders on the team. Another person who was a huge part of this championship team was Drew Church. The last person was Nathan Kuedell who was always ready for intense situations and was an important post-player. Overall this championship team made everything look so smooth, and effortless.
I believe that the reason that this team was able to win two back-to-back championships was because of the team bond. This team was made up of mostly seniors and juniors who were very close friends. Now you know who all played, how they did, and some of the player’s team roles. If there is one thing, I would like you to walk away with after this article is that there is nothing more important in a team sport than the relationship between the players.
