By: Fletcher Gould
To start off the 2022-23 basketball season, on November 30th, Regis hosted the Jefferson Lions for their first home game. The Rams came out strong and ready to play, especially Diego Aguilar, who was facing his former teammate. Diego had three steals in the first five minutes of the game and lit it up on the offensive end by scoring 28 points. Isaiah Koehnke, one of the tri-captains, picked up where he left off last year and led the Rams in scoring with 35 points. Senior Josh Blish also had a strong game with 14 points coming following a year away from basketball. The Rams ended up soundly beating the Lions 84-55.
Regis next focused on beating the Portland Adventist Cougars. The Rams went and scouted the Cougars as they played Kennedy. Regis had a great week of practice and was ready to play their first road game of the year at Portland. The Rams started slowly and were losing by five points at the end of the first quarter. The Rams picked up the effort in the second quarter and led by Isaiah Koehnke closed the gap to two points with the Cougars leading Regis, 33-31. In the second half, the Rams hit the boards hard with Josh Blish and Roman Gould combining for 17 rebounds. In the second half, Diego Aguilar got hot from the field and joined Isaiah Koehnke in double figures leading the Rams to a 70-59 victory over Portland Adventist. Next up for the Rams on Thursday, December 15, they will be hosting the East Linn Eagles.
