Basketball Preview

By: Lucas Koehnke

For this article, I interviewed the three seniors on the team. I also interviewed head coach Jason Koehnke.

Casey Voltin expressed his confidence that we would do very well this season. Casey says, “I am ready to get revenge on Salem academy and win the conference. We will make it to Pendelton, have a great run, and win.”

Josh Blish says, “I am most excited to play East Linn and Kennedy. I believe that we will be successful if we work as hard as we can. I am also most excited to play at Pendleton because it is my first year playing Varsity.”

Diego Aguilar said, “I went to Jefferson last year but decided to come to Regis this year. I am excited to play in the tri river because Jefferson has not played there for a long time. The team I am most excited about is East Linn, though.”

While at the kitchen table, I asked Jason, What is the game you are most excited about, league and non-league, and how we will do this year. He said, “I am excited to play East Linn and Santiam, but I really want to beat some teams in the capital city classic. I think that if we play the best defense we can and put a lot of work in, we will be very successful this year.”

Last but not least, the coaching staff. The head Coach Jason Koehnke is a familiar face from coaching four girls’ state championship teams and soon-to-be four state championship boys’ teams. This 2022/2023 season will be his 3rd year in a row coaching. Coach Andrew Church was on the three men’s state championship teams. Coach Agulairs first year at Regis, but in college, he played baseball at Willamette University. Coach Woods has been coaching Jason and Coach Voltin for three years.
