Chapel Stations

Regis is not your typical high school. Considering it’s both Catholic and private, the school has many things and opportunities that other schools don’t have. For instance, Regis has a really nice chapel in the dome. In the chapel, there are many things, such as an altar and a tabernacle for the Blessed Sacrament. There is also a variety of beautiful stained glass windows, as well as many pictures. Included with these pretty images and statues, there is also a small collection of the Stations of the Cross hanging along the walls. These stations are one of the main parts of the chapel. In this article, though, I will write only about the first one.

            The First Station is when Christ was condemned to death. This station is important to our Catholic faith because it is the event that officially started Christ’s journey up to the hill of Calvary. It also was the starting point of the main focus of our religion; Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection; his offering up of himself for the sake of our souls. In our chapel, we have an image of this event painted on a little canvas frame, hanging along the wall with the other 13 stations. These stations were hand-made by past Regis students and were painted very carefully. They are all similar in shape and color, yet they all have unique styles. These works of art are very special, and people should take some time to look at them while they are in adoration. The students who made these stations worked quite hard to make these pictures, which added a lot more detail to our little place of worship.

 These Stations are remarkable to look at, and they are an important addition to the chapel. They are very cool, and I recommend looking at them. So, next time you are praying in the chapel, take some time to observe the stations of the cross paintings!
